No
place on earth is quite like New Zealand. It is
a land where two different cultures, Polynesian Maori
& British colonial flourish side by side. The diversity
of landscapes - from lush forests to extreme volcanic
terrain, tropical beaches to majestic glaciers –
makes New Zealand an extraordinary experience. With
a wealth of activities- whether a family vacation, a
sports adventure, or a romantic getaway, this relatively
small island country can fulfill all your travel expectations.
A 12 1/2 hour flight on Air New Zealand or Air Tahiti
Nui from Los Angeles leads you to Auckland. The largest
city in New Zealand, Auckland is the sophisticated center
of North Island and home of the America’s Cup
in 2003. Home to one-third of New Zealand’s population,
the City of Sails boasts three harbours, two mountain
ranges, 48 volcanic cones and more than 50
islands surrounding itself. Jump on a ferry and
you can unwind on Waiheke Island’s tropical
beaches, sample fine wines at Kumeu vineyards, golf
at the stunning Kauri Cliffs golf course, or wander
through the world's largest Pohutukawa forest on Rangitoto
Island. Visit Auckland’s many galleries, museum,
restaurants offering perfected Pacific Rim cuisine,
clubs and theaters.
Central North Island is the volcanic heart of New Zealand.
Rejuvenate your senses in nature’s finest natural
spa – the steaming geothermal pools of Rotorua.
Create your own thermal pool at the Coromandel Peninsula
and Hot Water Beach – simply dig a hole and jump
in. The dramatic background of this area includes the
snow-capped Mount Ruapehu, a favorite for skiers and
snowboarders. Gaze at an underground starry sky while
black water rafting through Waitomo’s subterranean
caves.
Discover Wellington and the vibrant culture of this
city. Stroll the waterfront harbor or explore the city’s
gourmet delights. Head to the Wairarapa region and sample
some of fine Pinot Noir and Riesling masterpieces at
Martinborough’s vineyards. Stay in a rustic farmstay
and enjoy the true charm of this rural area.
Cross Cook Strait through the marine paradise of the
Marlborough Sounds and head for the scenic splendors
of South Island. From the famed Mount Cook and the Southern
Alps to Milford Sound’s stunning landscape, South
Island is the adventure capital of the world. Skiers
can test their limits at Cardrona and Treble Cone near
Lake Wanaka while hikers can backpack at Fiordland National
Park. See the fur seals and bottlenose dolphins at the
Sounds.
Pacific Legends can create a perfect honeymoon or vacation
escape for you to this diverse and magical land. |

| Legend:
How the Kiwi lost his Wings
One
day the king of the forest, Tanemahuta noticed that his
trees were being eaten by ground bugs. He called his brother,
the king of the sky, Tanehokahoka for help. In order to
save the trees, Tanehokahoka called all his children, the
birds together for a meeting. He asked if any of the birds
would give up their life in the sky and come live on the
ground in the forest to save the trees. No bird was willing
to except for the little bird Kiwi. He agreed to exchange
his beautiful wings and colorful feathers for strong legs
in order to save the trees of the earth. For his sacrifice,
the Kiwi became the most well known and loved bird of all.
